Additional learning needs (ALN)

Additional learning needs (ALN)

ERW is committed to delivering a fair and fully inclusive education system ensuring that all schools are able to support all learners. ERW wants all learners to receive an education which removes barriers and provides opportunities for them to reach their full potential.

The Heads of Inclusion from across the region are responsible for ensuring that schools in their local authority meet the needs of learners with additional learning needs (ALN). These officers work closely together and meet half termly when they review their plan of work in the Support for Learning section of the ERW Business Plan. There are changes happening in the way that the needs of children and young people with additional learning needs are met. A summary of these changes can be found on www.gov.wales/aln. Your local authority will also be able to give you information about the services available in your area.

ERW recognises that the highest performing education systems are those that combine ‘equity with quality’ (OECD) and that an inclusive education system benefits all learners. ERW will continue to develop the workforce so that schools can receive the necessary levels of support and challenge around inclusive practice.
