The Graduate Certificate in Professional Learning: Mathematics, English or Science

The Graduate Certificate in Professional Learning is for secondary teachers and upper Key Stage 2 teachers who are aspiring towards or currently undertaking a teaching role in Mathematics, English or Science within their schools, and are keen to develop specialist subject expertise. Interested applicants are required to have a strong background in the core subject they would like to pursue.

The programme intends to provide subject specialist teaching and training to enable participants to become qualified Mathematics, English or Science teachers who are able to teach the respective subject successfully in their schools. This qualification can then progress to the MA Education.

The programme provides specialist subject content and pedagogy through the medium of English and Welsh and is accredited at level 6.

All applicants for the programme should have QTS together with

  • Mathematics, English or Science at A Level standard and/or
  • Mathematics, English or Science modules at degree level and/or
  • Relevant school based experience in Mathematics, English or Science.

These qualifications should be evidenced at application.

Overall the programme consists of:

  • 21 days of University based learning
  • 2 assignments
  • placement learning of a minimum of 40 hours
  • a final showcase of work

Completion of the course will require all of the above components to be successfully met.
