Professional Learning Pathway for Teaching Assistants

Training Opportunities. 

New programmes will be delivered across Wales for Teaching Assistants and will provide invaluable opportunities to network and collaborate with professionals from across the region. 

Induction for new teaching assistants

Regional consortia are offering an induction programme this year for people entering role of Teaching Assistant. The programme is tailored to help new TAs understand their role & responsibilities and to embrace the core values & dispositions of the professional standards. There will be two full days and supply costs will be paid to schools. Please see the calendar below for the dates and locations:

Digital Learning Training for teaching assistants 

ERW are offering training for teaching assistants with 3 or more years of experience who are looking to develop their digital competence. The training will provide an opportunity for teaching assistants to develop their understanding of the Digital Competence Framework (DCF), and to become familiar with the tools on Hwb. The day will involve lots of hands-on activities on Hwb therefore it is essential that attendees bring either a laptop or tablet device and their Hwb login details, which is obtainable from your school Digital Champion (usually the ICT coordinator). The training is a full day course and release costs will be paid to schools.

Experienced teaching assistant training

Regional consortia are offering training for teaching assistants who have been in post for at least two years and who would welcome an update on the changing context of the profession. This national programme will be delivered regionally by ERW. The programme will provide information to do with the professional standards, current relevant strategies to support their practices and a range of ideas and strategies to inspire professionalism back in school. Aspiring HLTA Programme.

This one day programme is aimed at teaching assistants with a wide range of skills and experience in leading support and intervention programmes in schools. It aims to support teaching assistants to further develop their understanding of effective support and intervention, professional standards for teaching assistants and the requirements for the role of HLTA.

This is a new programme (pilot) and is open to all Teaching Assistants with appropriate (against the standards) experience aspiring to HLTA status. Release costs to cover Supply and travel will be provided for this training.

HLTA National Conference

There will be a National Conference for all HLTA across Wales to aims to further develop their understanding of new developments in Wales. The conference is open to all TA who have achieved HLTA status from Welsh Government since the introduction of the status in 2003.

This conference will celebrate the work of HLTA in our schools discuss the current changes for Teaching Assistants and include guest speakers Professor Mick Waters and Shonette Bason-Wood
