NEW Professional Standards for Teaching and Leadership
The new professional standards for teaching and leadership have been developed in partnership with teachers, consortia and other key stakeholders across Wales. There are now five key standards which concentrate on the essential elements of every teacher’s work, from trainee teacher to experienced school leader.
1 September 2017 – newly qualified teachers commencing induction in Wales on or after this date will start using the new standards (NQTs who began their induction prior to this date will continue to use the practising teacher standards.)
By September 2018 – the standards will apply to all serving teachers and leaders. They can choose to adopt the new standards at a time to suit them.
September 2019 – the standards will apply to all initial teacher training programmes
We have produced online resources that will help you to explore the new standards and communicate them with others.
- Interactive PDF will guide you through the new professional standards and descriptors
- Short animation will help you get the most from the new professional standards
Promoting the standards
Your support communicating the new standards will help to ensure that all practitioners are aware of the new standards and engage with them appropriately.
