Exciting new ‘Academy Associate’ Roles
Exciting new ‘Academy Associate’ Roles with the National Academy for Educational Leadership Announced
The National Academy for Education Leadership (NAEL) is offering a small number of ‘Academy Associate’ roles to serving head teachers. Associates will work one day a week on supporting the development of the new Academy, including design of its first high level leadership programme and scrutiny of programmes put forward for endorsement.
The Associates will also engage in a bespoke high level development programme (10 days duration) to further develop their leadership skills.
As the first Associates of their kind, the role will be rich and varied, involve travel in Wales and perhaps further, and bring them into contact with leading figures in the world of education leadership.
For the initial 12 months period Welsh Government will provide a contribution to the releasing school of £12,000. Moving forward future funding will be a matter for the Academy to determine in line with its overall priorities, available budget and the level of participation it requires from the Associates.
The National Academy for Education Leadership (NAEL) is being established to make Wales a great place to be an education leader, with high quality leadership in all our schools. It will secure, nurture and inspire leaders in helping to realise ‘our national ambition’ for Welsh learners and the Welsh Education system.
This is a unique opportunity to ensure that the work of the Academy meets the needs of all leaders in Wales. This first group of Associates will be in a strategically important position to influence the initial work of the Academy and help secure its standing among school leaders. As such Associates will be role models for school leadership across Wales.
Associates will take part in the first leadership development programme designed and owned by the Academy. This programme, exclusively available for Associates, will develop and strengthen the skills and knowledge required to play this strategic and system leadership role. This first pilot group will simultaneously engage in this programme and help to co-construct it for future cohorts.
1 day per week for the initial 12 months. A further two years engagement is likely, with future levels of engagement and remuneration subject to negotiation between the Associates and the Academy.
In the first year an additional 10 days commitment will be required to attend a bespoke Leadership Development Programme (cover costs will be provided for teaching headteachers?).
