Summer update of the Pioneer School Networks

Curriculum Pioneers

Curriculum Pioneers are providing subject expertise to support the development of the Areas of Learning and Experience in Strand 2 of the Welsh Government timeline. This strand is about creating the high-level design of the AoLE in preparation for Strand 3 which is the population and development of supporting materials. Pioneer Professional Learning Schools

Pioneer Professional Learning Schools will assist in the development of training for the implementation of the new curriculum and will join up with Curriculum Pioneers to develop the AoLEs in the Autumn. Their focus will be to pilot aspects of the new curriculum as they are created by the AoLEs. Further details will be made available in the Autumn term. Their current work has centred around developing aspects of the twelve pedagogies of Successful Futures, working on pilot projects and assisting with the delivery of the ERW professional learning programme. Pioneer Professional Schools will continue to disseminate information to partner schools to involve them more fully in Successful Futures

Digital Pioneer Schools

Digital Pioneer Schools will continue to work with schools to support and train to assist the implementation of the DCF. and will join up with Curriculum and Professional Learning Pioneers to develop the AoLEs in the Autumn. Their focus will be to pilot aspects of the new curriculum as they are created by the AoLEs. Further details will be made available in the Autumn term. There is also a Professional Learning framework under development with the Digital Pioneer schools and this framework is expected to be available by January 2018.

ERW curriculum reform

ERW are continuing to work closely with the other three regions and Welsh Government to support developments in Successful Futures and the curriculum reform work stream. Information meetings have been held in all LA areas by ERW to disseminate information and updates to all schools about Successful Futures. The information included updates about Pioneer Schools work and the feedback received from these meetings will be used to support progress into the next academic year. All schools have access to the ERW Pioneer Schools Hwb site, this site and other communication methods have been used to disseminate information and to provide a platform for relevant document storage, case studies and regional research. All Challenge Advisers have had Successful Futures awareness training and the Leaders of Learning project to support school clusters has been launched. ERW have also supported pilot projects with the Pioneer Professional Learning Schools for the OECD, Schools as Learning Organisations and the new Teaching and Leadership Standards.
